He Has Called You by Name

Have you ever had a verse hit so deep that you just broke down in tears? For me, it was Isaiah 43:1.

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine.”

The first time I really heard this verse, like truly heard it in my spirit, was while watching the first episode of The Chosenmaybe four years ago. They repeated that verse a few times during the episode, but it was the moment when Jesus called out to Mary Magdalene and said those exact words as she was walking away that completely wrecked me.

I remember just sobbing, like no control whatsoever, just bawling my eyes out. Something about that moment felt personal. Like Jesus was saying it to me.

And that was the beginning of something changing in my heart. Because for so much of my life, I’ve felt unseen. Unloved. Unwanted. Like I didn’t belong anywhere. Like I didn’t matter. Like I was just existing, going through the motions, hurting and confused, and wondering what the point of it all was.

But in that moment, when Jesus followed Mary and called her by her real name and said those words to her, “I have called you by name… You are Mine.” I felt God whispering them into my heart too. Letting me know that I was seen. That I mattered. That I belonged to Him.

The Promise Behind the Verse

Isaiah 43:1 wasn’t just a poetic moment; it was a powerful promise.

God spoke these words to the people of Israel right before they were about to be exiled into Babylon. They were about to walk through deep suffering. And yet God reminded them of this: You are Mine. I have called you by name. I will be with you.

It wasn’t a promise of comfort or ease. It was a promise of presence. Of love. Of belonging.

And that promise is for us too. No matter what you’re going through, no matter how unseen, unloved, or forgotten you feel, God sees you. He knows you. He has called you by name.

You Matter to Him

If you’re reading this right now and feeling like maybe your life doesn’t have meaning. If you’ve been wondering if God notices you at all. If you’ve been carrying pain and shame and wondering what your purpose is. Let this verse remind you: He sees you. He knows you. He loves you.

You are not just a face in the crowd. You are not just another person trying to survive. You are His.

The God of the universe calls you by name.

And when He calls you, it’s not to shame you, but to redeem you. To remind you who you are. To whisper into the depths of your soul that you belong to Him.

You Are Not Forgotten

This verse has become my anchor. In the days I want to give up. In the moments I feel small and unworthy. When everything feels too heavy and I wonder where God is…

I remember those words. “I have called you by name. You are Mine.” Not because I deserve it. But because He is that kind of God.

So, if you’re reading this today and feel like you’re drowning in your own story, let this be your lifeline. You are not forgotten. You are not too far gone. You are not invisible.

You are His. And He’s not letting go.

Lord, thank You for calling me by name. When the world makes me feel unseen or unwanted, remind me again that I belong to You. Speak truth into the places where I’ve believed lies. Wrap me in the security of Your love. Thank You for knowing me, loving me, and claiming me as Yours. I trust that You will be with me in every season, even the ones that feel too hard.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
