Stay at His Feet in Every Season
There’s something so powerful about simply being still with Jesus.
I don’t mean just pausing for five minutes of prayer in the middle of a chaotic day (though even that can be powerful). I’m talking about a heart posture. A quiet surrender. A decision to stay close—not just when life falls apart, but in every season.
I’ve had moments where staying at His feet felt easy—where my heart was tender, my prayers flowed, and I genuinely felt His presence in every part of my day. But I’ve also had moments where it felt hard to even lift my eyes, let alone sit at His feet. I’ve had seasons where I felt numb, distracted, tired, even disconnected—and in those moments, staying close to Jesus didn’t feel natural. It felt like work.
But that’s when I needed it the most.
Because the truth is, we don’t stay at His feet because we feel strong—we stay because we’re not. We stay because we need Him in the joy, in the heartbreak, in the waiting, in the unknown, in the ordinary, and in the mess. Every season of our life—every high, low, and in-between—needs to be lived from a place of surrender.
Not long ago, I was listening to a song that completely brought me to tears. It’s called “Feet of Jesus” by Legacy Nashville feat. Brian Nhira. I had it playing softly in the background while cleaning, and something about the lyrics just stopped me in my tracks. It reminded me that this is what my soul is longing for—to sit at His feet from morning until evening. To rest there. To stay there. To not rush past His presence or only come to Him when I’m falling apart.
We always say, “run to God,” when things go wrong. But what about running to Him when things are going right too? What about choosing to sit at His feet when life feels steady, not just when it’s chaotic? That’s the kind of closeness I want. That’s the kind of faith I’m asking Him to build in me.
Because staying at the feet of Jesus is where we’re reminded of who we are. It’s where peace quiets our anxious thoughts. It’s where clarity is found. It’s where our hearts can breathe again.
Luke 10 tells the story of Mary and Martha. Martha was busy, overwhelmed with all the things she had to do. Mary chose differently. She sat at Jesus’s feet, fully present with Him. And when Martha complained, Jesus responded, “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her.”
That verse always gets me. Because if I’m being honest, I’ve been Martha more times than I can count—busy doing, stressing, striving… but deep down, longing to be Mary.
Longing to just sit and be with Him.
Friend, whatever season you're in—don’t lose that posture. Whether you’re overwhelmed, waiting, healing, celebrating, or just walking through the mundane everyday, choose to stay at His feet. That’s where strength is renewed. That’s where joy is restored. That’s where direction is given.
Let everything else fall to the side for a moment. Lay it all down. And just sit with Jesus.
Jesus, help me stay close. Not just when life is heavy, but every single day. Help me to choose the better thing—to rest at Your feet, to listen, to be still, and to find peace in Your presence. Teach me to make space for You in every season. I don’t want to move ahead of You or fall behind—I just want to stay near. In Your name, Amen.
